Sligo beaten by last-gasp Buccaneers try

Sligo saw rugby’s Connacht Senior League title slip from the grasp in the dying seconds of Saturday’s title decider in Athlone as Buccaneers scored a late try with the last play of the game to win by 21 points to 19.

Paddy Pearson’s side, who were unbeaten going into this game, appeared to be destined for victory, having established a 14-6 half-time lead through first-half tries from Darragh Feehily and Finn Bamber.

Euan Brown touched down for a third Sligo try in the second-half which saw them lead by 19 points to 9.

However, in the closing moments of the game, Buccs produced two tries to snatch victory from Sligo – and with it the Connacht Senior League title for 2022.
