Former Sligo TD backs Bertie Ahern’s return to Fianna Fáil

A former Sligo Leitrim TD has backed calls for to allow Bertie Ahern back into the Fianna Fail party.

A meeting of the parliamentary party heard contributions to allow the former Taoiseach to re-join ahead of the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement next year, according to the Irish Examiner.

Mr Ahern resigned from the party in 2012 following the Mahon Tribunal.

Eamon Scanlon served as a Fianna Deputy and Senator during Bertie Ahern’s term as party leader.

He says that Bertie Ahern played a major role in establishing peace on this Island and should be welcomed back into the Party.
