St Mary’s through to Sligo SFC semi-finals

St Mary’s made it three wins out of three in Group 1 of the Homeland Sligo senior football championship Group 1 on Sunday with a 1-14 to 1-11 success over Calry/St Joseph’s in Cloonacool to assure themselves of a place in the county semi-finals.

Ryan Feehily’s second-half goal was a key score, coming just moments after Calry’s Dara O’Boyle had netted a second-half penalty to bring his side back into the game.

St Mary’s were by far the better team in the opening half and led by 0-10 to 0-4 at the break.

Calry managed to close the gap to three points at one stage, but the Ballydoogan club took some fine scores over the course of the hour, and while there were some edgy moments in the closing stages, following the dismissal of Paul Kilcoyne, Mary’s held on for a deserved win.

In Sunday’s other Group 1 match, Shamrock Gaels beat Tubbercurry by 15 points at Markievicz Park to set up an winner-takes-all clash with Calry/St Joseph’s in next weekend’s concluding round of group games.

The top two clubs from each group will qualify for the county semi-finals.
