Glencar/Manor face championship relegation play-off

There will be no north Leitrim club in the knockout stages of this year’s Connacht Gold senior football championship following Glencar/Manorhamilton’s 4-9 to 1-13 loss to holders Ballinamore Sean O’Heslin’s on Saturday evening.

The result means Martin Greene’s side must plan now for a relegation play-off against Dromhair, who lost their final group game to Melvin Gaels on Saturday.

The Kinlough side must also walk the relegation tight-rope for a second consecutive season as they will face Gortletteragh in the other relegation semi.

Mohill, managed by Sligo’s Eamonn O’Hara, scored five goals to beat Aughawillan by 5-10 to 0-18 and secure a quarter-final place.

Aughawillan also make the knockout stages despite that defeat – and will now face St Mary’s in one of two quarter-finals.

Mohill’s prize for beating Aughawillan is yet another clash with champions Ballinamore.

Team manager Eamonn O’Hara spoke to reporter Ray Lannon after Saturday’s win:

Leitrim Gaels won the battle of the top two in the Group stage to complete the round-robin series with four wins out of four.

Both they and Fenagh/St Caillin’s progress directly to the county semi-finals.

Saturday’s Connacht Gold SFC results
Glencar/Manor 1-13 Ballinamore 4-9

Gortletteragh 0-8 St Mary’s 2-16
