Both the Justice Minister and the Garda Commissioner are facing pressure to carry out an urgent review of Garda numbers in the Sligo/Leitrim division.
Latest figures show that Sligo/Leitrim suffered a net reduction of 5.8% in Garda personnel last year which equates to the division now having fewer Gardai than in 2015.
Fine Gael Cllr Thomas Walsh is to raise the issue at today’s sitting of Sligo County Council.
Cllr Walsh believes that the issue is effectively leaving both local communities and frontline Gardai themselves in a very unsafe position:
