A Donegal councilor says last nights extreme flooding could have been avoided

Donegal County Council are warning motorists to avoid the main Letterkenny to Glenties road at Glenswilly due to serious flooding and substantial damage to the road.

Met Eireann issued a yellow weather warning for the entire county on Saturday with an orange warning given to 13 counties including the northwest.

Last night’s rain has closed the road between Letterkenny and Fintown at Glenswilly near the national school, about 10km outside Letterkenny due to extreme flooding.

A large amount of debris is blocking the route with local residents currently trapped in their homes. Donegal County Council staff are currently attending the scene.

Speaking to Oceanfm News Donegal Councilor Donal Mandy Kelly says this situation could have been easily avoided.
