Connacht bid to retain golf interpros just falls short

There was disappointment for the Connacht senior men’s interprovincial team at Moyvalley Golf Resort in County Kildare on Thursday evening as they were pipped to the title by Leinster on a points countback at the end of three days of competition.

Connacht, who were the defending champions, beat Ulster 8-3 in their concluding match on Thursday, but Leinster’s 8.5 to 2.5 victory over Munster saw them narrowly clinch the title.

The Sligo duo of TJ Ford and Sean Flanagan were part of the Connacht team.

They beat the Donegal duo Ryan Griffin (Ballybofey/Stranorlar) and Cian Harkin (Letterkenny) 2&1 in the morning foursomes.

Ford was beaten by Aaron in the afternoon singles while Flangan halved his match.
