Sligo councillor calls for review of the School Transport Scheme

A Sligo councillor is calling on the Minister for Transport to undertake a review of the School Transport Scheme for primary and post primary schools.

Children are returning to school as early as next week and there’s a huge shortage of drivers, according to Bus Eireann.

Families across the county are waiting to see if their child has a seat on a bus and some have already being told a number of days before the return of the academic school year that they don’t have a place

Bus Eireann have reportedly received almost 130 thousand applications for school transport.

100 thousand tickets have been issued to date, but there are delays in processing the rest due to a shortage of buses and drivers.

Sligo Fine Gael Councillor Thomas Walsh says the situation parents are finding themselves in is unacceptable
