Government under pressure to introduce windfall tax before budget



The Government is coming under pressure to introduce a windfall tax on energy companies before the budget.

 

Donegal TD Pearse Doherty says it’s immoral that energy firms are profiteering on the cost of living crisis, caused by the war in Ukraine.

 

Companies producing wind energy are expected to see revenue increase six-fold in the months ahead.

 

It’s estimated in the next few months by the state regulator for utilities, they could earn over 330 euro a mega watt hour.

 

Taoiseach Micheál Martin said yesterday that government will consider the introduction of the windfall tax on the huge profits generated by energy firms.
