Sligo-Leitrim Super League champions Carbury FC were crowned the 2022 winners of the St Catherine’s FC annual seven-a-side soccer tournament in Killybegs on Saturday.
The Sligo club beat the hosts 5-4 on penalties in the final at Emerald Park after the game finished 0-0 at the end of normal time.
John Feeney’s side had come through their group with wins over Coolock Village (Dublin) and Keadue Rovers – and they drew with St Catherine’s in the group stage, with both teams qualifying for the semi-finals.
Both semi-finals also went to penalties with Carbury beating Strathroy Harps of Tyrone 9-8 on spot kicks, while St Catherine’s accounted for Donegal Town F 5-4 in the shoot-out.
Carbury’s Christopher Kelly was named Player of the Tournament in what was the Sligo side’s second time to compete in the St Catherine’s tournament.
