Sligo Rovers allowed to stage Viking game at the Showgrounds

Sligo Rovers have been granted a derogation by UEFA to stage the home leg of their Europa Conference League third qualifying round tie at the Showgrounds on Thursday, August 11th.

The venue did not have the required number of seats (4,500) for a Category 3 European tie (the Conference League 3rd qualifying round falls into this category) but Rovers have been given special dispensation by European football’s governing body to stage the game at the 3,900-capacity venue.

This means no new/temporary seated stand at the Nazareth House end of the ground will be required.

The home leg will have a 7pm kick-off on Thursday, August 11th.

Before that, Rovers will travel to the Norwegian town of Stravanger next week to play the first leg.

That game on Thursday, August 4th, will have a 6pm kick-off (Irish time).

Both games will be broadcast live on Ocean FM Sport.
