Declan Darcy to join Leinster Rugby

Former Leitrim Connacht championship winning captain and Dublin selector Declan Darcy is set to take up a coaching role with Leinster Rugby.

The Irish Independent reports that Darcy has been lined up to work as a performance coach under Leo Cullen when the new rugby season begins.

Darcy was a key part of Jim Gavin’s Dublin management team which won six All-Ireland titles between 2013 and 2019.

The Aughawillan man previously captained Leitrim to their second ever Connacht senior football title in 1994 before switching his county allegiances to Dublin four years later.

He played for the Dubs until his intercounty retirement in 2003.

Darcy’s move to Leinster rugby also appears to end speculation that he had been lined up to take over from Dessie Farrell as Dublin manager.

Farrell’s current term ended with the Dubs All-Ireland semi-final loss to Kerry and it’s not clear yet if Farrell will seek an extension.
