Killybegs preserve Division 1 status with win over Glenswilly

Crucial scores from free-taker Conor Cunningham and a point from play two minutes from time by Jack McSharry propelled Killybegs to a dramatic 0-10 to 0-9 win over Glenswilly in Saturday’s Donegal senior football league division 1 relegation play-off at Davy Brennan Memorial Park in Glenties.

The win ensures the Fishermen stay in Division 1 for next season – but Michael Murphy and Glenswilly make the drop to Division 2.

Glenswilly looked to have the winning of this match for much of the hour and they led by 0-7 to 0-5 going into the final quarter.

But Cunningham’s long-range free-taking would prove vital for Killybegs as he helped bring the men in red level in the closing dramatic moments – before McSharry popped up to fire over the winner.
