Donegal’s Fintan Dewhirst reaches European athletics final



Tir Chonaill Athletic Club’s Fintan Dewhirst has qualified for boys 400 metres hurdles final at the European under-18 Athletics Championships in Jerusalem.

DewhIrst, a pupil at St Columba’s Comprehensive School in Glenties, clocked 52.62 seconds to finish fourth in his semi-final on Wednesday morning.

He qualified for Thursday’s final as one of the fastest losers.

His run followed up an impressive 2nd place in Tuesday’s first round heat.

Dewhirst has been in impressive form on the track lately, having won the 400m hurdles at the recent Tailteann Games in Tullamore to qualify for the Ireland schools team for the forthcoming schools international meeting in Belfast later this month.
