Cillian Heaney signs senior pro contract with Sligo Rovers

Sligo Rovers academy graduate Cillian Heaney has signed his first senior professional contract with the club.

The Mayo native originally signed for the Sligo Rovers U15 team back in 2017 from Westport United.

His new contract extends his stay with Rovers until the end of the 2024 season.

Heaney has played at underage, schools and third level for The Republic of Ireland.

A past-pupil of Rice College Westport, he completed his leaving certificate at The Mayo school where many other Bit O’ Red academy players attend, before joining ATU Sligo.

Heaney spoke to Mark Halton this week about his new Rovers deal.

Heaney is part of the Rovers squad who are in Shropshire this week for Thursday’s Europa Conference League tie against Bala Town of Wales.

Meanwhile, another Rovers academy player, Darren Collins, has joined first division club Treaty United.
