St Mary’s GAA Club open new ‘sensory space’



St Mary’s GAA/LGFA club in Sligo has launched a new sensory space for younger players and members with additional needs.

The new sensory ‘hub’ is a  pop-up blackout space filled with lots of calming Sensory lights and toys to support children to help them self regulate when they are feeling overwhelmed and need some time.

The idea is to provide a safe space for any child that’s discreet and respectful of their needs.

Ocean FM Sport’s spoke to St Mary’s club officers Maggie Heylin and Marcella McGarry about this new club resource.

St Mary’s are also introducing a new Sligo’s first ever Cúl Camp for children with additional needs and their families. On August 3rd to 5th from 10am to 12pm, a a Cúl Eile Camp will take place with the help and support of Sligo GAA, Sligo Sports Partnership, Curry GAA , and Sligo GAA Games for all.

The camp is designed for children of all abilities with additional needs to come and participate.

Parents will be encouraged to stay , support and play at the camp.
