Vacant properties need to be addressed says Leitrim’s new Cathaoirleach



New Leitrim Cathaoirleach calls for a new scheme to deal with vacant properties across the county

Cllr Ita Reynolds Flynn outlined her desire to address the large number of vacant properties in Co Leitrim as one of her primary goals for the year head.

Preliminary results from the Census show Leitrim has the highest rate of empty dwellings in the country at 16 percent.

The CSO say 48,000 homes are vacant across the Northwest, most of which are farm properties and empty since 2011.

Plans to address the housing issue are already underway with Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien leading discussions with Leitrim County Council on ways to tackle the high number of vacant homes in the county.
