Tubbercurry’s Liam Kerrigan joining Italian Serie B club

Sligo’s Liam Kerrigan is joining Italian Serie B club Como 1907, his current League of Ireland club UCD have confirmed.

Kerrigan, who’s a native of Tubbercurry, recently helped the Republic of Ireland under-21 international team reaching the play-offs of the European Championships, and his recent performances for both club and country have attracted the interest of the Italian side.

Como finished mid-table (13th) in the Serie B season just completed.

Kerrigan scored in Ireland’s recent 3-1 win at home to Montenegro, and also played against Italy in the group decider that Ireland lost 4-1 in Ascoli.

UCD head coach Andy Meyler confirmed Kerrigan’s departure to Italy following Friday night’s 1-0 loss to Derry City.

Kerrigan did not feature for the students in that game.

He becomes the fifth Irish youngster to make the move to Italy in the last year.

Former Sligo Rovers teammate of Kerrigan and fellow Tubbercurry native Raff Cretaro gave Ocean FM Sport his reaction to the transfer.
