St. Columba’s Fintan Dewhirst wins Interprovincial 400 metre hurdles gold



St. Columba’s Comprehensive School, Glenties student Fintan Dewhirst produced an impressive run on Friday to win gold in the boys 400 metre hurdles at the Tailteann Schools Interprovincial Championships, held at Tullamore Harriers AC in Offaly.

Dewhirst, who is a member of Tír Chonaill Athletics Club ran a time of 54.87 to claim the gold medal.

Dewhirst has enjoyed a strong 2022 to date recording both Irish and personal records.

His 4138 points set a new Irish youth heptathlon record in Athlone in January. As well as that, he recorded a personal best time of 52.98 to win the 400 metre hurdles at the Franconville Under-18 international in France in mid-June.

Dewhirst will also represent Ireland at the European Athletics under 18 Championships in Jerusalem in July
