Local TD claims north west festival groups are struggling to obtain insurance cover



The Dáil has heard that some local festivals in the north west may not go ahead this year due to organising committees being unable to afford the spiralling cost of insurance.

 

The events normally takes place annually however due to Covid-19 some haven’t taken place since 2019.

 

There had been a renewed focus by many  local community groups this year to get such festivals  back up and running however it’s emerged that some groups can’t secure insurance and therefore cannot proceed.

 

The issue was raised in the Dáil by Sligo Leitrim TD Martin Kenny during a debate on insurance reform.

 

The Sinn Fein TD has warned that real change needs to happen before the end of this summer:
