Co Sligo’s Alan Gaynor & Ireland win golf’s European Team Championship



County Sligo golfer Alan Gaynor was one of the four-strong Ireland team which won the European Team Championship for golfers with a disability in Belgium on Saturday.

The team, consisting of  Gaynor, Ballinasloe’s Aidan Grenham,, Dundalk’s Brendan Lawlor and Carton House’s Conor Stone won the event by a massive 25 shots.

 

Starting the final day’s play 16 strokes clear after an excellent opening two days of Foursomes and Greensomes, the quartet pulled clear in their Singles rounds at Belgium’s Koksjide Golf Ter Hille.

This is the first year Ireland have sent a team to the European Team Championships for Golfers with a Disability.

Gaynor, who’s 27 years of age, lives 100 yards from the practice putting green at Co Sligo golf club in Rosses Point.

He has been regular player at the West of Ireland Championship at Co Sligo Golf Club in recent years.
