New laws could be introduced to protect landowners from personal injury claims

It’s being reported today that the Minister for Agriculture is about to introduce new laws which will afford Landowners more protection from personal injury claims being made by members of the public.

The Irish Independent, say the  Agriculture Minister and Donegal TD Charlie McConalogue told a public meeting in Co. Leitrim that laws currently being drafted would ‘rebalance’ the responsibilities of both parties.

It would provide a ‘voluntary assumption of risk’ if a person willingly places themselves in a position that may cause them harm, meaning landowners would be better protected against potential law suits from walkers and hikers who injure themselves on private land.
