Killybegs factories being punished for ‘taking a stand’ says Donegal TD

The Dail has heard claims that factories in Killybegs are being punished for taking a stand in the fish weighing controversy.

In recent weeks, a number of vessels went to Derry to land their catch because of rules at Killybegs however the SFPA deem Derry outside of Ireland and subsequently removed a number of in-factory weighing permits

Donegal Sinn Fein TD Padraig MacLochlainn raised the issue as part of statements to Marine Minister Charlie McConalogue.

Deputy MacLochlainn believes what is being asked of fishermen in Killybegs is not happening anywhere else.

He pleaded for both the Taoiseach and Minister McConalogue to intervene.
