Pig farmers step up protests

Farmers from the counties of Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal are standing in solidarity with Pig farmers at locations across the country this morning as they seek commitments from processors for price increases.

The IFA Pigs Committee has intensified its campaign to ensure that the price paid for pigs reaches €2/kg by June 1st.

Protests have been in place since 6am this morning.

Farmers are protesting at locations in Athlone, Wicklow, Tipperary and Monaghan.

Frank Brady is the IFA Ulster and North Leinster Regional Chairman.

He says recent support measures announced by the Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue are not sufficient to keep many pig farmers in business.
