Local Labour Party member says two tier health system should not exist



A former local and general election candidate says those working in the community and voluntary sector have been left 14 years without a pay increase and also continue to be presented with poor short term contracts.

 

Healthcare workers in the community sector protested yesterday in Dublin for better pay and conditions

 

SIPTU, Forsa and the INMO organised a march in Dublin yesterday to highlight the need for better pay and respect for the staff who work in organisations like the Rehab group, Pieta House, Local Employment Services and the Irish Wheelchair Association among others.

 

The trade unions say that Section 39 and Community Healthcare Workers are poorly paid, have poor or no pensions and lack security of employment.

 

Local representative from the Labour Party in the North West Nessa Cosgrove SAYS Community workers need to be acknowledged for the work that they do.
