Sligo Councillor concerned over midwives not being able to take annual leave

A Sligo Councillor claims midwives in Sligo University Hospital are unable to take annual leave due to the shortage of staff.

Fine Gael’s Thomas Walsh says the situation is not sustainable and is calling on the CEO of the Saolta Hospital Group, Tony Canavan, to announce what plans are in place to address the problem.

A recently published review of staff in the Emergency Department at Sligo Hospital also found upwards of 80 additional Nurses and Healthcare Assistants are required to meet demands.

Councillor Walsh says the current ‘model isn’t sustainable’.
