Sligo hurlers get vital Christy Ring Cup win over Wicklow

Sligo senior hurlers collected their first in this year’s Christy Ring Cup campaign with a comprehensive 4-24 to 1-14 over Wicklow at Markievicz Park on Saturday.

Andy Kilcullen was Sligo’s top scorer with 2-7, while Galway native Conor Hanniffy contributed 0-8.

Sligo had lost their opening two Christy Ring Cup group matches against London and Derry – and Saturday’s game was viewed as a game which could decide the likely county to be relegated from the third tier of championship hurling.

Sligo have remaining games against Kildare and Mayo – but Saturday’s victory was a big step towards Padraig Mannion’s side retaining their Christy Ring Cup status for 2023.
