Local golfers miss out on West of Ireland matchplay stages

Dundalk golfer Caolan Rafferty (pictured) was the leading qualifier for the matchplay stages of the Connollys Audi West of Ireland championship following Sunday’s final round of strokeplay.

The champion of 2019 was the only player to finish under par after the three round of strokeplay (-3) as the cut fell at +7 to qualify for Monday’s matchplay stages.

That cut mark saw Co Sligo golfer TJ Ford miss out on a countback.

Despite a birdie on the 18th green, he narrowly missed out on a place in the last sixteen.

Donegal golfer Ryan Griffin is through the knockout stages.

The Ballybofey-Stranorlar clubman played solid golf over the past three days to qualify on +3.

He takes on Andrew Mulholland in the round of 16 on Saturday morning.

Defending champion Hugh Foley from Royal Dublin is also through after a round of 74 to also be +3 for the championship.
