Sligo Councillor accuses the government of ‘giving with one hand and taking with two’



A Sligo Councillor says the says the proposed ban on the commercial sale of turf whilst increasing the cost of home heating will result in householders in rural areas being hardest hit by ongoing increases in the cost of living.

 

Sinn Féin Councillor Thomas Healy says the Government is “giving with one hand and taking with two”, in relation to rural Ireland.

 

The Sinn Fein Councillor says that while the VAT rate has been lowered on on home heating oil plans to increase carbon tax on home heating oil discriminates against the west of Ireland.

 

Cllr Healy says the reductions in gas bills will not benefit the vast majority of people in this region.
