Donegal TD says intervention from Minister of Agriculture is needed in Killybegs

A Donegal TD has called on the Taoiseach to instruct Minister Charlie McConalogue to intervene in a dispute that has resulted in fish not being landed at Killybegs.

Sinn Fein Deputy Pearse Doherty says that on Friday, a Danish vessel full of blue whiting was prevented from landing due to the approach by the Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority in regard to the weighing of fish.

On Tuesday, a Norwegian fishing vessel was also prevented from landing at Killybegs, with 54 workers sent home after having been told there was no work for them in the processing factory.

Deputy Doherty described it as ‘an example of stupidity and madness.’
