Location of Cancer Treatment Centre questioned by local campaigner

A local campaigner says a dedicated cancer centre catering to the region should be built in a more centralised location.

A centre has been included in the Government’s National Development Plan for Galway University Hospital aimed at catering to patients in the West and North West.

Catriona McGoldrick believes the centre should be built in a different area that is fairer to everyone as regular trips to Galway for people in the likes of Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal can become costly and time consuming.

She says having the centre based in Galway brings a number of issues such as a lack of adequate public transport.
