Funding announced for Flooding prevention in Glenfarne

A Leitrim Councillor says flooding protection works that will commence shortly along the Glenfarne should help ease concerns over flooding in the area.

Leitrim County Council have been successful in securing a funding allocation of over 80,000 euro for the clearance of vegetation from Glenfarne River and the protections of properties with embankments at Glenfarne.

81,330 euro has been made available under the Minor Flood Mitigation works and coastal protection scheme.

Flooding from the river had previously damaged a number of properties.

Local Councillor Sean McDermott says many home owners are living in fear of the damage further flooding could do to their homes.

Although the Fine Gael Councillor would have preferred a more substantial allocation of funding he says it’s important that work starts as soon as possible.
