Sligo councillor calls for price caps on fuel costs



A Sligo Councillor is calling for price capping to be introduced on the sale of petrol and diesel.

 

A number of TDs have made complaints to the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission about rises in prices in advance of last week’s excise cut.

 

It’s feared that the 320 million euro intervention hasn’t made a difference at many forecourts across the country.

 

It’s being claimed that the Organisation of Petrol Exporting Countries will not dance to ‘Joe Biden’s tune’ and manipulate fuel prices to help Europe.

The chairman of an Irish oil firm etrel Resources, made the comments as pressure mounts on the OPEC to up production.

 

Sligo People before Profit Councillor Gino O Boyle says the government will have to introduce price fixing.
