Killaghtee Old Church and Cross selected for Adopt a Monument scheme

Killaghtee Old Church and Cross in Co. Donegal has been selected as one of five national monuments for the Heritage Council’s Adopt a Monument Scheme.

The old Church at Killaghtee is thought to date back to the 12th century while the cross is believed to be as old as 650 AD.

The other monuments selected are Inniskeen Motte in Co. Monaghan, Dunmanogue Church and Graveyard in Co. Kildare, Baltimore Ringfort in Co. Cork and St. James’ Church and Graveyard in Dingle, Co. Kerry.

Janet Dean of Dunkineely Community Ltd., the group who submitted the application to preserve the area, says it will ensure the monuments are there for generations to come.
