Caolan Ward wins Séamus McGeady Memorial Award



St. Eunan’s and Donegal defender Caolan Ward has been announced as the 2021 winner of the Séamus Mac Géidigh Memorial Award, Gradam Shéamuis Mhic Géidigh.

The award, for the best player in the Donegal Senior Football Championship is named in honour of much-respected RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta broadcaster Séamus Mac Géidigh who passed away suddenly in July 2016.

Ward, who was part of the St. Eunan’s team that won the Dr Maguire Cup in 2021 joins illustrious company on the list of award winners.

Donegal captain Michael Murphy won the inaugural award in 2016. Kilcar clubman Mark McHugh was the recipient in 2017, Odhrán Mac Niallais of Gaoth Dobhair in 2018 and Naomh Conaill’s Ciarán Thompson took home the award in 2019.

Thompson held onto the trophy through 2020 where the championship was delayed due to the pandemic and appeal process that followed.

Ward and his Donegal teammates host Monaghan at MacCumhaill Park in Division One of the Allianz Football League on Sunday.
