Western Rail Trail representative says funding for greenway should be grasped

An Oireachtas committee will be told this morning that it would ‘be foolish’ not to take available money for the development of a greenway that will link the west to the north through Sligo, especially as it seems the reinstatement of a train track on the rail line seems to be a long time away.

The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications is meeting in Leinster House to continue discussions on an All-Island Strategic Rail Review.

That review will deal with the development of future rail services across the island, including inter-city, cross-border and regional services.

Among those the committee will hear from this morning will be representatives from Western Rail Trail, West on Track, and the Atlantic Economic Corridor Business Forum.

John Mulligan, from Western Rail Trail, has been telling Ocean FM News what his message to the committee will be this morning.

He said when money is available for the development of a greenway, it should be taken advantage of.
