Coola breeze past Gaoth Dobhair to reach School’s National Cup Final

Hat-tricks from Daire Callaghan and Owen Elding, coupled with goals from Oisín Conlon and Darragh McKeon propelled Coola Post Primary School to the final of this year’s FAI Schools Junior ‘B’ National Cup following an eight goals to three victory of Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair at Letterkenny on Tuesday afternoon.

Kevin McCarthy’s side raced out of the traps in the opening half and registered into a four-nil lead. Daire Callaghan helped himself to two goals while Oisín Conlon and Darragh produced clinical finishes.

Their west Donegal opponents grabbed one back before half-time but the Riverstown school did not let up.

Gaoth Dobhair’s Cronan Mac Pháidín sandwiched a goal between Elding’s first and Callaghan’s hat-trick clincher.

Martin Coyle did find the back of the net with a free kick on 63 minutes for the Tír Chonaill students before Elding completed a hat-trick of his own before the end.

Elding, a son of former Sligo Rovers player Anthony, made it seven on 71 minutes and increased the margin with a penalty ten minutes from time.

After the game, Manager Kevin McCarthy gave his reaction to Ocean FM Sport’s Ronan Flanagan.
