Sligo U-20 footballers make it two wins from two



Four goals proved the key for the Sligo Under 20 footballers as they made it two wins from two in this year’s Philly McGuinness Cup with a one-point victory over Longford on Wednesday evening.

Sligo held a one-point lead at the interval and despite finishing the game with thirteen players, held on for victory at the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence in Bekan.

Leitrim, meanwhile suffered a heavy defeat to Fermanagh in Cloone on Tuesday evening.

Dessie Sloyan’s Sligo host Leitrim in Round Three of the Philly McGuinness on Saturday afternoon in Cloonacool at 12 noon.

Donegal’s Under 20 footballers also remain unbeaten. They defeated Roscommon by four points on Saturday last in the Leo Murphy Cup.

Termon’s Bobby McGettigan continued his fine goal scoring streak, finding the the back of the net on two occasions, similar to the previous week at home to Derry.

The Tír Chonaill men travel to Mayo in Round Three.

The 2022 Ulster Minor Football League begins on Saturday.

Corlough GAA Grounds will play host to the game between Cavan and David Caffrey’s Sligo.

Meanwhile, Donegal will welcome Fermanagh to the GAA Centre in Convoy. Both games are scheduled for a 12 noon throw-in.
