Sligo Grammar reach School’s Cup final

18 second half points propelled Sligo Grammar School to this year’s Connacht Senior ‘A’ Cup school’s rugby final following Wednesday’s win against Marist College on a score line of 18 points to 6 in Athlone.

James Gavin’s side produced a dominant opening half in search of valuable points and had a player advantage for two ten minute periods following yellow cards to Marist College players but resolute defending from their opponents ensured the Athlone-based school led three points to nil at the interval.

With the wind at their backs in the second half, the Grammar made the advantage count. They crucially restricted Marist College to just three points and scored 18 of their own to secure their place in the final.

Tries from Arann Platt and Adam Hunter, while one conversation and two penalty kicks from Earl Norris ensured the Grammar’s spot in the showpiece where they will face the winners of the other semi-final between Coláiste Iognáid (The Jes) and CBS Roscommon which takes place on Thursday afternoon.

After the game, Sligo Grammar School coach Sean Taylor spoke to Kevin Egan
