The teak tough defender won many admirers during her lengthy playing career and her exemplary leadership which included three terms as Sligo Ladies captain in 2004, 2010 and 2019 was a strong feature of her time on the team.

The Templeboy native crossed the Atlantic in 2004 as she enrolled at the University of West Georgia. It was her soccer exploits that brought her there as she had been invited on a scholarship.

However, not content with Gaelic Football and Soccer, Mulligan registered with Sligo Rugby Club in 2010 which ultimately led to selection by the Ireland sevens squad.

In 2018, the PE Teacher at the Mercy College in Sligo decided to go travelling. As part of her adventure, she climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, a challenge that typified Mulligan’s fearlessness and determination.

Jacqui Mulligan has recently been appointed as a coach in Steve’s Feeney’s backroom staff with Sligo Rovers’ Women’s National League team ahead the side’s inaugural season.
