Skreen Dromard meeting hears of shock, fear in area

Local residents living in the Skreen and Dromard areas of west Sligo are struggling to come to terms with the brutal and savage attack on  Tom Niland last month.

The 73-year old  was viciously beaten in his own home on January 18th after answering a knock on his door.

He remains critically ill in hospital.

The attack on Tom Niland dominated last night’s meeting of Skreen Dromard Community Council.

Meanwhile, the search for those responsible continues.

Gardai earlier this week issued a fresh appeal for any members of the general public who may have information about the attack to come forward.

Investigators believe the culprit’s travelled from as least as far as Tubbercurry, as Mr Niland’s wallet is believed to have been found by a man out walking near a lake on the mountainous road between Dromore West and the N17.

Chairman of the Skreen Dromard Community Council committee is James McLoughlin, he spoke to Ocean FM news  after last night’s meeting and explained how the community is struggling to come to terms with the sequence of events:
