Kristen Sample signs for Sligo Rovers

Goalkeeper Kristen Sample has become the latest signing for the Sligo Rovers senior women’s team ahead of their inaugural Women’s National League campaign.

Sample, a 33-year-old originally from Baltimore in the United States will bring valuable experience to Steve Feeney’s young squad.

She has enjoyed spells at Raheny United, Durham Wildcats in England and more recently with Cork City (as player/coach) in the Women’s National League.

Sample is also a highly skilled and qualified coach. She is the holder of a UEFA A Goalkeeping Licence and will enrol in the association’s A Licence in the summer.

The shot-stopper will double up her playing role with coaching at The Showgrounds and so far has been a source of knowledge and experience to her teammates, telling sligorovers.com:

“Everyone has been really good. I’d be a little bit closer to the WNL than they would be having played in it last year so I’ve kind of thrown some ideas their way and they’ve been really receptive to it.”

Sligo Rovers begin their Women’s National League campaign on Saturday, March 5th away to Peamount United.
