Donegal council to seek High Court order enforcing suspension of councillor

Donegal County Council has agreed to take High Court proceedings against one of its own councillors.

It’s after Cllr Frank McBrearty showed up at a council meeting this afternoon, despite having been suspended last week from meetings, following a decision of members.

Last week’s meeting was adjourned six times amid uproar when Cllr McBrearty sought to raise issues in relation to the council and the Mica controversy.

The council is now seeking a High Court order enforcing the suspension of Cllr. McBrearty.

The council agreed to a motion authorising the Chief Executive to secure an injunction, including an order for costs.

Gardai were present at today’s meeting, which began just before 2pm at the Aura Leisure Centre in Letterkenny.

The council’s solicitor was also present.

The meeting is to reconvene on Monday, February 21st.
