Garda Superintendent: There are people who know who ‘viciously attacked’ 73-year old Skreen bachelor

Gardai in Sligo have this morning renewed their appeal for information in relation to what they have described as ‘the vicious and cowardly attack’ on a 73-year old West Sligo man who is now in critical condition in Sligo University Hospital.

Tom Niland a bachelor, who lived alone in a house along the N59 at Doonflin, Skreen, was severely beaten, sustaining serious and head and body injuries, during the January 18th attack.

Three masked men were involved; it’s not known if a fourth person waited in a car outside.

Afterwards, Tom was able to give gardai a limited description of his attackers. However, his condition has since deteriorated and he is now on life support in hospital.

This morning, during a media briefing in Sligo Garda Station, Superintendent Mandy Gaynor said there are people out there who know who was involved in this attack.
