Naomh Conaill fined €5000 – but keep 2020 Donegal title

2020 Donegal senior football champions Naomh Conaill have been fined €5,000 for using too many substitutes during the pandemic-delayed county final – but they are allowed to keep their county title.

The decision was communicated to the club and beaten finalists Kilcar on Wednesday.

Naomh Conaill beat the Towney club on penalties last August in the 2020 senior championship decider, which had been delayed by almost a year because of Covid restrictions.

Kilcar objected to the result on the basis that their opponents had used too many subs during extra-time.

That initial appeal was upheld by Donegal GAA, and a replay of the final was ordered.

However, Naomh Conaill appealed and took their case to the Ulster Council.

The provincial body decided that the investigation had to begin again because of rule errors by Donegal CCCC surrounding video evidence presented at the initial appeal by Kilcar.

There is still the possibility of yet another appeal by Kilcar to this latest decision.

For now, Naomh Conaill’s name remains on the 2020 senior championship roll of honour.
