Geevagh’s Sarah Reynolds to captain Sligo in 2022



Sarah Reynolds has been appointed as the new Sligo LGFA senior football captain for the 2022 season.

The Geevagh clubwoman is a teacher at Strandhill NS and has been a mainstay of the Sligo county side in recent seasons.

She takes over the captaincy from Nicki Brennan, daughter of the Sligo manager Athlone.

Reacting to her captaincy appointment, Sarah said: “It’s is a huge honour, and  a massive role.

“I’m looking forward to putting in as much work and commitment it takes. We want to aim big this season by helping to get the team further in the league, move up a division and win the championship.”

St Farnan’s Claire Dunne is the team’s new vice-captain as Sinead Regan (Drumcliffe/Rosses Point) is taking a year out from the county scene this year.

Dunne is a student in DCU.

Sligo begin the Lidl Division 3A league campaign on Sunday, February 13th, at home to Louth.

They are in a four-team group which also includes Down and Roscommon.

The top two teams from Division 3A will progress to the league semi-finals.
