Grace has race to remember at prestigious Millrose Games

Sligo Athletic Club’s Grace Foley ran a superb race at the famous Millrose Games in New York on Saturday evening to earn a podium finish in the ‘World’s Fastest Kid’ race.

The Scoil Ursula pupil finished joint third in the race in a time of 9.01 seconds behind the race winner Leilani Ariyibi of Nigeria.

Grace was prepared for the Games by well-known Sligo athletics coach Dermot McDermott.

Another young Irish athlete, Cian Donnelly from Tuam, finished third in the boys race.

The search to find Ireland’s fastest kids was started in 2015 Sligoman McDermot – an ardent supporter of Irish athletics.

He began by implementing two simple tests in each school he visited: a standing long jump and a flying 20m run.

Since then, the eventual Irish winners have competed each year at the Millrose Games in the US.

Due to the pandemic, the Games weren’t held in 2021 – but returned this year.
