Fears are being expressed that the closure of the B Braun Hospicare facility in Collooney will have a devastating impact on the local economy.
80 jobs will be lost with the closure of the facility
Management of the company announced that it plans to close the site over the next 18 months.
The facility has been based in Sligo Town since 1984.
Of the 89 staff in Collooney, 80 are to be made redundant, and consultations in relation to this will begin in the coming weeks.
Local Councillor Thomas Healy says the closure of the facility will have a ripple effect on the local economy. He’s compared the closure to that of the Gowan or GWI factory in the town back in the 1980’s
