Community in Skreen shocked by violent attack

A Sligo Councillor says the local community in Skreen has been left, shocked and traumatised by a recent aggravated assault which left a retired farmer in his 70’s needing hospital treatment.

Independent Councillor Michael Clarke says proper deterrents need to be in place to prevent such attacks taking place again.

The man in his 70s is recovering in hospital after three masked raiders broke into the home and beat and robbed him.

The horrific incident happened at around 7pm on Tuesday at a house along the N59, the main Sligo Ballina road, in the townland of Skreen.

It is understood the pensioner suffered a broken eye socket and a serious head injury in the attack.

Sum of money is believed to have been taken in the raid.

Cllr Clarke says the Public’s co-operation with the Gardaí will be key in bringing those responsible for Tuesday’s attack to justice.
