New restrictions will lead to more house parties and revellers crossing the border claims publican

A Sligo publican says the timing of the restrictions and the way it has been leaked in the media is another source of major disappointment.

This is after the government has been advised  by NPHET to close all pubs and restaurants at 5pm, as soon as possible.

The National Public Health Emergency Team  have also proposed that cinemas, theaters and sporting events should also be subject to a 5pm curfew and be capped at half capacity.

He says if the measures are introduced it could be the final straw for many pubs.

Speaking to Ocean FM News Blaine Gaffney the early closing restrictions will lead to an increased number of house parties over Christmas and will also drive revellers from the Counties of Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal across the border to Northern Ireland in large numbers.
